ASTICON 2014, the 38th national conference of Indian Association of Sexually Transmitted Infections and AIDS, concluded at PGI.
The conference was organized by department of medical microbiology, PGIMER. Dr Anjelika Stary from Austria delivered a talk, 'What's new in STI'.
She brought to focus the recent developments like nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) of DNA or RNA as an accurate diagnostic approach, importance of chlamydia trachomatis infection, recent developments in gonorrhoea diagnosis and the resurgence of STIs throughout the world.
The synergy between STI and HIV was discussed. The day ended with a valedictory function.
Medals and prizes were given to winners of the scientific paper presentation.
