Indira Gandhi national Open University (IGNOU) and the National Association of Professional
Social Workers (NAPSWI) of India have been annually organizing a National seminar on HIV/
AIDS in collaboration with different institutions in several cities of India since 2004. This is
the ninth annual national seminar and the collaborator for this seminar is the Department of
Social Work, Visva‐Bharati.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was established by an Act of Parliament in
1985. Today it serves the educational aspirations of about four million students in India and
abroad through 21 schools of studies, 12 chairs, and an elaborate network of 60 regional
centres, over 45,000 academic counsellors, about 3500 study centres, and 52 overseas
centres. IGNOU made history by establishing the first school of social work in ODL system in
2007 which is perhaps the largest school of social work with student strength of over
30,000.
